At 3:30am on Wednesday, Chuck Schumer tried to force a vote on the For the People Act by unanimous consent, according to The Houston Chronicle. Cruz took to the Senate floor to respond. Cruz objected the legislation, calling it “a federal government takeover of elections” and a “massive power grab by Democrats.” Cruz continued to attack Schumer for about 15 minutes, the Chronicle added. Cruz said, “This bill would constitute a federal government takeover of elections.
